My name is Justine. Thank you so much for visiting! I live in Los Angeles, CA about 3 miles from the iconic Venice Beach. Being near the ocean is healing for me. I don’t go enough.

“H” and I just married in July 2012, but we partnered up over 10 years ago. We met our freshman year at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He’s a high school math teacher, and an amazing one at that. For his own privacy, he won’t appear on here as much as I’d like, but he’s the best.

We adopted the most amazing pup, Carter Cash, from an LA adoption 4 years ago. He is everything we wanted in a dog – super smart, cuddly without separation anxiety, active and freakin’ adorable. He is a major part of my life.

We spent our first year of marriage with H starting grad school, and my sister crashing at our apartment while she relocated. Having an extra person in the apartment wasn’t ideal, but if I had to do it, I’m glad it was my sister. My brother also lives in SoCal. We’re all super close. I’ve accidentally relocated 60% of our family here. In my defense, it’s not hard to say good-bye to east coast winters.

My parents live on Long Island, NY, where we’re originally from. I’m a proud New Yorker but the SoCal culture is swaying me.

The music industry brought me to Los Angeles, but after a Devil-Wears-Prada experience at my first job, I left for a straight-forward gig working for my alma mater, Berklee. That job, and a whole lot of support from the Universe, developed into a kick-ass position. It’s a dream job and I’m super spoiled. That is all.

I started this blog in May 2010, right when I was beginning to take responsibility for my happiness. It coincided with adopting our pup, buying a beach cruiser, and seeing a therapist. My own quarter-life crisis.

Currently, I am enjoying married life, embarking on a year of Project Life, saving for a house (which, let’s be honest, seems utterly impossible) and launching two major projects at work. Also, I have the coolest friends and would be lost without them <3

A few more tidbits:
I’m a Pisces with moon in Scorpio. For me, astrology is a fun lens to see myself, and my world, through. Yes, I picked my wedding date based on the moon. No, I can not do your birth chart or tell you if you’ll meet your soulmate, but maybe one day.

I’m an INFJ. Quiet, communication, creativity, alone time, intuition and resourcefulness are important to me.

I grew up thinking I wasn’t athletic. Now, I love working out and feeling healthy.

I was diagnosed with ALL when I was little. Through chemo and other treatments, I survived. It’s only recently I identified myself as a “survivor”.

While I don’t have a Long Island accent, I can rattle off it off with the best of them.

My one little word this year is “becoming”. 2012’s was “trust”.

I used to write songs. Now I blog & take photos, but I’m hoping the songs come back one day.

Slight obsessions: self-serve frozen yogurt, Mt. Everest, anything in a Pottery Barn magazine, farm tables, reading, getting enough sleep, hot baths, teaching Carter silly tricks, lattes and taking photos with my iPhone.

The first time I saw the Grand Canyon, I was overwhelmed to the point of tears.
I dream of Alaska.

Pisces with Moon in Scorpio, the deep desire and stark terror of being visible. Brave blog!

Yes, I guess it is brave. Thank you for the encouragement.

I’m an INFJ who wasn’t athletic as a kid but now finds herself running and working out (alone) in order to keep her sanity. Interesting – keep writing!

Hi Jill – thanks for the comment! Working out alone is wonderful – and I’ve found now that I like running in general, I’m more than happy to meet up with a friend – but only if the conversation is going to be good… otherwise, I’d rather run alone.
